CONGRESS TODAY (5/5):

 SENATE


 No Votes -- The Senate began consideration of S. 672, the Bosnia/Disaster
 Assistance Supplemental. The Leadership filed cloture on the bill, with a
 vote to occur on Wednesday, at a time to be determined. Thus, Members
 must file 1st degree amendments to the bill by 2:30 pm on Tuesday.    The
 automatic continuing resolution was not dropped from the bill.
          [SAP sent, 5/5: D&Based on the Senate Committee bill, which included
         the automatic    continuing resolution, the President had
 indicated        that he would veto it because it        includes
 strongly objectionable           extraneous provisions.DB]

 HOUSE

 CONGRESS TOMORROW (5/6)

 SENATE
 The Senate will convene at 10:00 am, and continue consideration of S. 672,
 the Bosnia/Disaster Assistance Supplemental. A vote on the Grams
 amendment, regarding the depository disaster relief act, will take place
 at a time to be determined.
         [SAP sent, 5/5: D&Based on the Senate Committee bill, which included
         the automatic   continuing resolution, the President had
 indicated       that he would veto it because it        includes
 strongly objectionable          extraneous provisions.DB]

 HOUSE
 Complete consideration of H.R. 2 - Housing Opportunity and Responsibility
 Act of 1997 (Open Rule)
         [SAP sent, 4/30: Administration supports many of the billD,s objectives,
         but opposes     the bill unless it is amended]

 Under suspension of the rules, the House will consider H.R. 1463, the
 Customs USTR / ITC Authorization bill
         [No SAP -- No objection, informally]

CONGRESS     LONG-TERM SCHEDULE

SENATE
The Senate aims to complete consideration of S. 672, the Bosnia/Disaster
Assistance Supplemental, by the end of the week. A cloture vote will
occur on Wednesday, May 7th

The Senate will likely take up the following items prior to the Memorial
Day recess:
Partial Birth Abortion legislation (likely to follow consideration of the
Supplemental)
        [House SAP sent, 3/21: President will veto]
S. 4, Family Friendly Workplace
        [SAP pending: President will veto]
Budget Resolution (possible the week of May 19th)

HOUSE
Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8
Convene at 10:00 am on wednesday, and 11:00 am on Thursday.
H.R. 3 - Juvenile Justice
         [SAP pending: No objection to House passage, but will seek
                 amendments]
H.R. 478 - Flood Prevention and Family Protection Act of 1997 (possible)
         [SAP sent, 5/2: Secretary of the Interior would recommend the
                 President veto the      bill in its current form.]


 H.R.1469 - Supplemental Appropriations Act (Subject to a Rule) -- The bill
 goes to the House Rules Committee on Wednesday, with floor consideration
 likely on Thursday.
