    Monday (1/5): President Clinton will meet with senior budget advisors to receive a briefing on
    baseline budget expectations and to review Fiscal Year 1999 budget plans. The President's
    remarks to the press pool at the top of the meeting may include revised deficit figures if OMB is
    ready to release them.

    Tuesday (1/6): President Clinton and Vice President Gore will attend a Roosevelt Room
    event with Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala to announce a proposal
    giving Americans between the ages of 62 and 65 new options for obtaining adequate,
    affordable health care coverage. The targeted proposal protects one of America's most
    vulnerable and difficult to insure populations -- a group that has less access to
    employer-based health insurance; is twice as likely to have health problems; and is at
    greater risk of losing coverage.

    Wednesday (1/7): President Clinton, Vice President Gore, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton,
    and Mrs. Tipper Gore will attend an East Room event to preview an historic child care initiative
    the President will propose in. his State of the Union Address later this month. This is the most
    substantial and comprehensive investment in care for America's children ever.

    Thursday (1/8): President Clinton will depart for a two-day trip to New York and Texas. Upon .
    departure the President may make a brief statement.

    Friday (1/9): President Clinton will spend the day in Texas. Overall the day will be focused on
    college opportunity for All Americans. And, he will discuss education in the emerging new
    economy and the significance of its role in preparing America for the challenges and
    opportunities of the 21 st century. During the day the President will make remarks at each stop
    of McAllen, Brownsville, and Houston. In McAllen, the President will discuss increased
    investments, proposed in the new balanced budget, in the work-study programs. In Brownsville,
    the President will address the people of that area on the Administration's continued commitment
    to investing in students. And, lastly, the stop in Houston will give the President the opportunity
    to stress the importance of post-secondary education and the priority of education for all our
    children who are willing to work hard.

    Saturday (1/10): President Clinton Radio Address will be broadcast. Topic to be
    determined.

    Sunday (1/11): No message event scheduled.
